The Office of Housing (HOU) drives policy and strategy for housing islandwide. The office leads cross-sector collaboration and policy change to stimulate the acquisition, development, and preservation of housing for all of Oahu’s residents, including the creation of pathways from homelessness to housing.

HOU is seeking an organized, positive, team-player to fill the role of Secretary. Answers phone calls, directs callers to appropriate department or referral program, schedules appointments and meetings, handle incoming mail and visitors. Manages the Executive Director and Deputy Director’s calendar and travel arrangements. Provides secretarial services, administrative support for HOU, and performs other related duties as required.

2024 Comprehensive Housing Plan
Launched in April 2024, CommunityScale and Abt Global are in the process of developing a Housing Plan for the City & County of Honolulu. The plan focuses high density housing around the rail system on the southern side of the island with neighborhood-scale infill housing around the island’s other communities.

City Takes Bold Stride Towards Affordable Living and Urban Renaissance
In a groundbreaking move which will reshape the City’s future, Mayor Rick Blangiardi proudly announced on Friday the successful acquisition of two strategic parcels in Iwilei by the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Land Management. These strategic acquisitions will pave the way for vibrant affordable housing, complete streets, and new connectivity to the Kūwili Skyline station, catalyzing the development of a new transit-oriented development (TOD) community in the heart of Honolulu.

Resurrection of the PAB Program
The Blangiardi Administration resurrected the PAB program after a 23-year hiatus, launching its Multi-Family Rental Housing Program for the issuance of tax-exempt PABs to facilitate the development and preservation of affordable housing. As of November 2023, $258,000,00 has been awarded to preserve over 950 affordable units throughout O’ahu.
