KUPUNA DRIVER'S LICENSE

Residents who are between ages 72 and 79 now have the option to renew their driver’s license every four years.

Act 159 (2022) made it possible for the City and County of Honolulu to offer four-year driver’s licenses – instead of only two-year driver’s licenses – to residents in this particular age group who are free of conditions that could impair their driving ability.

All driver’s licenses can be renewed up to six months prior to expiration. The four-year driver’s license renewal fee is $20, which is consistent with the current $5 per year fee for driver’s licenses.

Drivers age 72 and older with conditions that could impair their driving ability remain eligible for a two-year driver’s license, and are required to submit a DOT-H2058 Medical Report Form.

Drivers 80 and older may only renew their license for two years.

Driver’s licenses issued to legal immigrants expire no later than the licensee’s authorized period of stay in the United States.
