MEDICAL EXAMINER’S RECORDS TECHNICIAN ASSISTANT

The position is unique in a highly specialized branch of transcription. It serves as a forensic pathologist’s records technician assistant to the Medical Examiner, whose duties are the performance and interpretation of postmortem examinations and the conducting of medicolegal investigations.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Transcribes dictations of postmortem reports; Reviews report drafts for corrections, additions or omissions before finalizing as legal documents.
  • Establishes and maintains investigation records files, which include postmortem reports, laboratory results, dental charts, fingerprints and correspondence; Searches files and assembles background material and information for departmental action.
  • Collects and submits information for certification of deaths.
  • Collects fees for requests for autopsy and investigative reports.
  • Performs other related duties.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and three years of clerical or stenographic experience, one of which shall have involved transcription, recordkeeping and data compilation work.
