HONOLULU – The following statement is attributable to Mayor Rick Blangiardi regarding the shooting in Wai‘anae last night that killed four people:

“I am deeply saddened and alarmed by the tragic shooting that occurred last night in Wai‘anae, where four lives were lost, and two others were seriously injured. This incident, involving neighbors, has shaken our community to its core and is a painful reminder of the violence that has impacted Wai‘anae too often in recent weeks. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and all those who are grieving in the wake of this senseless tragedy.

This marks the fourth high-profile shooting in the area in the past month. The frequency and severity of these violent incidents demand urgent attention and action. The City and County of Honolulu stands ready to support the Honolulu Police Department, community leaders, and social service organizations as we work to understand the causes of this violence and take meaningful steps to prevent it.

This violence must stop. I call on our entire community to come together, to look out for one another, and to speak up if they see or hear something that could help prevent another tragedy. Now more than ever, it is crucial that we come together as a community to support one another and take meaningful steps to prevent these tragedies from happening again.”
