Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) accepting applications for 6th EMT Academy

HONOLULU- The Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Department is hiring for its Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Academy IV. Beginning August 20th through Thursday, August 22nd, the City and County of Honolulu will open a 3-day recruitment for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) positions. The EMT I position is the entry level position into Honolulu EMS.

Applicants are required to be at least 18 years of age, have a drivers license, and a high school diploma. The Academy runs for 20 weeks and is scheduled to begin in Spring 2025. Once in the Academy, EMT recruits will receive training and be tested on Basic Life Support (BLS) skills including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), wound care and establishing an intravenous (IV) line. Recruits will also receive training in ambulance operations, which includes emergency driving.

“We are looking for recruits who have a passion to help others, often when those people are experiencing their worse moments,” said Jim Ireland, Director of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department. “It is a very difficult job and it takes a special person but it is also exciting and incredibly rewarding.”

Qualified applicants will be required to take a written test that is scheduled on October 26th. Once accepted into the Academy, recruits will earn a starting pay of $4,933 a month.
