Waste Drop-off Locations
FOR BUSINESSES:
Businesses need to have an account with the City and County of Honolulu in order to dispose at Transfer Stations, Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill or H-POWER. View the Rules and Guidelines for Businesses page prior to disposing of waste at the specific disposal sites. Please contact the Refuse Business Accounts at 768-3410 to inquire about obtaining a city disposal account. Businesses who do not have an account with the city are required to work with private waste haulers.
Commercial users delivering combustible waste may use the city’s transfer stations in Kailua, Haleiwa and Honolulu. Disposal rates are higher than disposing at H-POWER. Contact the transfer for the type of waste accepted. Kawailoa Transfer Station is limited in space; commercial users should call Kawailoa Transfer Station to ensure their type of vehicle can unload prior to delivery.
Commercial users delivering non-combustible waste e.g. wastewater grit/bar screenings, auto shredder fluff, industrial waste/sludge, sandblast grit, autoclaved medical waste and dead animals may use WGSL. WGSL is owned by the city and operated under contract with Waste Management of Hawaii, Inc. Loads requiring special handling or to inquire about the types of waste accepted, please call Waste Management of Hawaii, Inc. at 668-2985 or visit their website at www.wm.com.
FOR RESIDENTS:
The City and County of Honolulu provides nine public refuse drop-off locations: six convenience centers and three transfer stations around the island for residents to dispose of their household rubbish including but not limited to furniture, bulky items, large metal appliances, and green waste. Green waste drop off is also available at a contracted composting facility located in Wahiawa. Residents are allowed two (2) loads per day at the city’s disposal sites, including the city’s green waste contractor, Hawaiian Earth Recycling in Wahiawa. View the Rules and Guidelines for Residents page prior to visiting a city’s disposal site.
Delivery Vehicles: Limited to sedans, sports utility vehicles (SUVs), pickup trucks, or mini-vans. Trailers are restricted. Vehicles with commercial plates and Rental Vehicles* are permitted, provided they are limited to the above types of vehicles and are delivering residential waste only generated by the owner of the vehicle except for deliveries of construction and demolition (C&D) waste to Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill (WGSL). Residents with trailers or larger rental vehicles need to be preapproved to use a transfer station only (no convenience centers) by providing vehicle information and a list of the type of waste items to disposal@honolulu.gov for review. Residents using commercial vehicles and/or hauling large quantities of inert materials or C&D waste to WGSL will be directed to PVT Landfill, Nanakuli (668-4561). For questions, email the city’s Refuse Disposal Branch at disposal@honolulu.gov.
*Limited size Rental vehicles as mentioned are allowed at all drop-off locations provided the rental agreement is in the householder’s name.
