HECO Power Outage Impacts H-POWER Facility Nov. 26

HONOLULU – Hawaiian Electric (HECO) will temporarily shut down power to a major line servicing the City and County of Honolulu’s H-POWER waste-to-energy facility today, Nov. 26, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., to conduct critical switchyard repairs.

The outage will also support crane operations to dismantle a section of the AES Hawai‘i overland conveyor on HECO property. During this time, H-POWER is unable to process trash or produce electricity because all three boilers are completely shut down.

All city and private waste haulers have been directed to use the Waimānalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill until HECO power is restored and the process of restarting the cold facility can commence. Power is expected to be restored by 3:30 p.m.
