HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) responded Saturday evening to a sewer spill at its West Beach 1 Wastewater Pump Station located at 92-1101 Ali‘inui Dr.
ENV crews received the call at 4:23 p.m., arrived at the location at 5:00 p.m., and stopped the spill at 5:30 p.m. Equipment failure caused approximately 6,000 gallons of raw wastewater to spill; however, crews were able to recover 5,500 gallons with the remaining 500 gallons dissipating into the ground. The spill did not enter a storm drain manhole nor receiving waters.
ENV notified the state of Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH). Crews finished cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing the area late last night.
