HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) responded today to a sewer spill at 4404 Mala`ai Street in Foster Village.
ENV crews received the call at 8:45 a.m., arrived at the location at 8:45 a.m., and stopped the spill at 11:30 a.m. A broken pipe caused approximately 10,000 gallons of raw wastewater to spill and enter a storm channel. Crews were able to recover 9,200 gallons with the remainder dissipating into the ground.
ENV notified the state of Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH). The placement of warning signs and water sampling has been waived by DOH. Crews finished cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing the area this evening.
