Honolulu welcomes author Angie Schmitt and her talk on “The Pedestrian Safety Crisis in America”

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS) and Honolulu Complete Streets are excited to announce that renowned author and transportation expert Angie Schmitt will be giving the presentation titled: “The Pedestrian Crisis in America: Why It’s Happening”. The presentation will discuss the pedestrian safety crisis in our country, social trends that are putting people at risk, and why, fundamentally, it is a problem of systematic, structural inequality.

The event will take place on:

Wednesday, September 25
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Neal S. Blaisdell Center, Hawaiʻi Suite.
777 Ward Avenue, Honolulu

Schmitt is the author of the new book Right of Way: Race, Class and the Silent Crisis of Pedestrian Deaths in America and will talk about the social trends that are putting people at risk. The 2024 Oʻahu Vision Zero Action Plan revealed that, locally, this issue disproportionately impacts people walking, kūpuna, and lower-income communities.

This event is presented by the City’s Complete Streets Program and DTS and is sponsored by Ulupono Initiative. We encourage our guests to walk, roll, bike, or bus to the event. Parking will be available at Blaisdell Center for a fee.

The public is invited to this free presentation and can sign up for admissions through Eventbrite.
