City announces upcoming TheBus modifications starting August 18, 2024

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS) announces upcoming TheBus service changes starting on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
The following routes are being modified:
Route 9 (Kaimukī-Pearl Harbor)
- Route 9 will be discontinued.
- Bus service along Valkenburg Street and Center Drive will no longer be offered.
- Service options along Discontinued Route 9.
- Routes 2/2L (select trips): service between Kapiolani Community College (KCC) – 18th Avenue/Pāhoa Avenue
- New Route 7: service between 18th Avenue/Pāhoa Avenue – Kaimukī Town/Waialae Avenue – Kapiolani Boulevard/Ala Moana Shopping Center
- Route 40: service between Kapiolani Boulevard/Ala Moana Shopping Center – Downtown/Hotel Street – Dillingham Boulevard – Nimitz Highway
- Nimitz Highway – Radford Drive – Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH)
- Radford Drive/Navy Exchange
- Route 1L: service between Kaimukī/Waialae Avenue – Mōʻiliʻili – Downtown – Kalihi – Salt Lake – Radford Drive – Aloha Stadium
- JBPHH
- Route PH8 at Aloha Stadium
- Radford Drive/Navy Exchange
Route 7 (Kalihi Valley)
New Route 7 (Kalihi-Kahala)
- Route 7 will be restructured with an extension to Kahala Mall and the Kamehameha IV Road segment will be discontinued and replaced by New Route 307.
- New Route 7 service areas:
- Kalihi Valley
- Kalihi-Pālama
- Iwilei
- Downtown/Chinatown
- Ala Moana
- Kakaʻako
- Moʻiliʻili
- Kaimukī
- Kahala Mall
- Kalihi Street between Dillingham Boulevard and N. King Street will have AM/PM peak service in the mauka-bound direction only.
New Route 307 (Kamehameha IV-Kalihi Transit Center)
- Will serve the Kamehameha IV Road segment of the current Route 7.
- Service areas:
- Kamehameha IV Road
- School Street
- Gulick Avenue
- N. King Street
- Mokauea Street
- Dillingham Boulevard
- Kalihi Transit Center
Route 18 (University-Ala Moana)
- Route 18 will be discontinued.
- Service options along Discontinued Route 18:
- Routes 13/14: service between Kapalulu Shopping Center – St Louis Drive/Chaminade University
- Route 13: service between Kapahulu Shopping Center – UH Mānoa/Dole Street/University Avenue
- Route 4: service between UH Mānoa/University Avenue – Wilder Avenue/Pensacola Street
- Route 102: service between Wilder Avenue/Keʻeaumoku Street – Ala Moana Center
- Route 8: service between Wilder Avenue/Pensacola Street – Ala Moana Center
Route 24 (Kapahulu-ʻĀina Haina)
- Route 24 will be discontinued
- Service options along Discontinued Route 24
- Routes 13/14: service between Kapahulu Shopping Center – Waikīkī/Honolulu Zoo
- Routes 2/2L (select trips): service between Waikīkī/Honolulu Zoo – Campbell Avenue – Kapiolani Community College – Kahala Mall
- New Route 23: service between ʻĀina Haina – Kahala Mall
Route 23 (Ala Moana-Sea Life Park)
New Route 23 (Kahala-ʻĀina Haina-Sea Life Park)
- Route 23 will be restructured.
- New Route 23
- Service will be extended into ʻĀina Haina to replace Discontinued Route 24.
- New 2-way service will be offered within ʻĀina Haina.
- Service between Ala Moana – Kahala Mall will be discontinued.
- Service options along discontinued segments of Route 23:
- Routes 2/2L: service between Kahala Mall-Kapiolani Community College-Honolulu Zoo-Kūhiō Avenue-Downtown
- Routes E/13/20/42: service between Honolulu Zoo-Waikīkī-Ala Moana-Downtown
- Service between ʻĀina Haina and Sea Life Park will remain unchanged.
- Service options along discontinued segments of Route 23:
- Service will be extended into ʻĀina Haina to replace Discontinued Route 24.
Route 20 (Aloha Stadium-Waikīkī)
- The Kapiolani Park loop will be discontinued from Route 20 and replaced by New Route 200.
- New terminus will be on Monsarrat Avenue near the Kapiolani Bandstand.
Route 9s (Pālolo Valley)
New Route 200 (Kapiolani Park-Pālolo Valley)
- Route 9S will be discontinued and replaced with New Route 200 Kapiolani Park-Pālolo Valley.
- New Route 200 service areas:
- Pālolo Valley (routing will remain unchanged from Discontinued Route 9s)
- Waialae Avenue
- Saint Louis School
- Chaminade University
- Kaimukī Avenue/Market City Shopping Center
- Kaimukī High School
- 6th Avenue/Alohea Street
- Ruger Market
- Makapuʻu Avenue/Kapiolani Community College
- Kapahulu Avenue/Honolulu Zoo
- Kalākaua Avenue/Waikīkī Aquarium
- Kapiolani Park
- Poni Moʻi Road/Paki Avenue (new terminus location)
DTS continues to monitor and evaluate TheBus system to address changes in service demand, productivity, and resource allocation.
