Department of Transportation Services

City to extend Skyline operating hours during the Megabon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wednesday, September 4, 2024

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS) announces that it will temporarily extended hours for Skyline rail operations on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., to accommodate the Megabon at the Aloha Stadium site.

The Megabon will take place at Aloha Stadium this Saturday, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is expected to bring more than 15,000 people in attendance. Aside from an authentic bon dance experience, attendees can enjoy local food and craft vendors, Japanese festival games, live entertainment, beverage vendors, beer garden, and drone show. Megabon’s sister chapter from Osaka, Japan, will bring authentic games, merchandise, and true essence of the bon dance to Honolulu.

With the huge success and crowds of the 2023 Megabon, parking at Aloha Stadium is expected to be VERY limited. DTS, Megabon, and Aloha Stadium encourage attendees to utilize Skyline, to avoid traffic congestion and parking difficulties. Skyline fares can be found here: www.thebus.org/Fare/FarePassesNew.asp

Riders wishing to take Skyline to the Megabon Dance will be able to use any of the eight stations west of Hālawa Aloha Stadium station. Riders will also be able to utilize the park-and-rides at the following stations:

Keoneʻae UH West Oʻahu Station: (304 parking stalls available at the park-and-ride)

Honouliuli Hoʻopili Station: (344 parking stalls available at the park-and-ride, and will close at 10 p.m.)

For directions and information on these park-and-rides, please visit: www.honolulu.gov/skyline-parking.

The Hālawa Aloha Stadium Skyline Station Park-and-Ride is still available for transit riders, but may not be used to park for Megabon.

Additionally, Leeward Community College (LCC) will be opening their parking lot for the event. The parking lot will be open at 3:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. via Gate 4 and will cost $3 per vehicle. Attendees can park at the LCC parking lot and jump on Skyline at the adjacent Hālaulani Leeward Community College Skyline Station.
