City invites residents to participate in the inaugural Keolu Drive Community Workshop
HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS) and Honolulu Complete Streets will hold the first Community Workshop for the Keolu Drive Complete Streets Project.
The meeting will be tomorrow, October 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kaʻelepulu Elementary School, 530 Keolu Drive.
Keolu Drive is home to many schools and community destinations. However, the street was designed primarily for vehicular access and does not provide walking and biking infrastructure for people of all ages and abilities. As a result, drivers speed, kids biking to school do not have connected or protected facilities, and crosswalks are challenging to navigate. DTS has begun the planning and preliminary design process to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and mobility on Keolu Drive and safely connect Keolu Drive to Kailua Road via pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements.
DTS and Complete Streets invites residents to an in-person community meeting to explore potential traffic safety improvements for all roadway users in Enchanted Lake, with a focus on Keolu Drive and portions of Wanaʻao Road, Awakea Road, Ka Awakea Road, and Paukū Street.
Residents will learn about Complete Streets and provide input for enhancing these important corridors for residents — whether on foot, in a wheelchair, on a bike, riding TheBus, or in a car.
For more information, please visit the Kailua Complete Streets webpage. The meeting will be recorded and posted on the website for those unable to attend.
