Donate a Bench
to a park near you!

The Department of Parks and Recreation accepts applications for donations of a park bench with a memorial plaque. The process length and cost of installation can vary depending on location and ADA access requirements. Click here to view the Declaration of Gift Process flowchart.

Bench: The donor will purchase the bench from a designated vendor (options to be provided by DPR and pricing will vary based upon vendor) and the Department of Parks and Recreation will receive and install the bench on the concrete pad.  The purchased bench must meet the following specifications: 

    • Hi-Back Traditional Bench
    • 6′ wide
    • Forest green seat, back and legs
    • 100% recycled plastic
    • 155 lbs

Plaque: The donor will purchase the plaque and the Department of Parks of Recreation will install the plaque on the bench. Plaques must adhere to the following specifications:

    • 3 1/4″ x 6″
    • Donor may chose a brass plaque- etched or  an aluminum plaque – applied electrochemical technology
    • Inscription Options (shall only contain two lines) – “DONATED BY THE FAMILY OF            ”  or  “DONATED BY THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF         

Concrete Pad: Donated benches must be installed on a concrete pad. Depending on the chosen location, the bench may need to be ADA accessible which may include a larger concrete pad and/or installation of a sidewalk leading to the concrete pad. The concrete pad must be installed by a licensed contractor, hired by the donor. The vendor will be required to obtain a Right-of-Entry Permit with the Department of Parks and Recreation in order to install the concrete pad. If the chosen location does not require the bench to be ADA accessible, the concrete pad must adhere to the following specifications:  

    • 5′ x 10′ concrete pad placed 1 1/2″ above grade
    • 4″ thick aggregate base
    • Compacted subgrade
    • Welded wire mesh in concrete layout
    • Remove rubble material from site when excavating for the pad (approximately 1/2 cyd)
    • Ensure landscape and grass in the location of the newly installed concrete pad is restored to its original condition
