O‘AHU – The two-week closure of a nearly half-mile stretch of shoreline along the Wai‘anae Coast is scheduled to begin Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

The closure of Lualualei Beach Park will begin from the bathroom building across the street from the Wai‘anae Wastewater Treatment Plant (Sewers) and extends north to the parking lot near Ala Poko Street (Middles). It is scheduled to last from Wednesday, September 4 through Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Fencing delineating the closure and on-site signage will be posted. The park and its facilities are expected to reopen Thursday, September 19. Permitted camping will resume for the park’s campground on Friday, September 20.

This closure will allow City park crews to conduct maintenance such as landscaping, brush clearing, irrigation repairs, and upkeep of the vehicular gates. Park staff will also be assisted by other City crews and community volunteers to conduct extensive cleaning of the beach park.

Everyone is invited to take part in the volunteer cleanup organized by Councilmember Andria Tupola on Saturday, September 7 beginning 7:30 a.m. at the nearby Wai‘anae Mall. Please wear covered shoes, gloves, hat, and sun protection. Clean-up supplies will be provided. Mahalo in advance for your kokua.

In April, a similar closure was conducted for a portion of Ulehawa Beach Park, which resulted in the removal of nearly three tons of trash and 10 cubic yards of recycled metal through City and volunteer clean-ups.
