The Plant Propagation for Nursery Workers course is offered by Windward Community College from July 2 through August 8, 2024. The course includes approximately 45 hours of in-person training, held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
As part of the course, you’ll be introduced to the practice of growing a variety of plants and trees through several propagation methods (from seed, cuttings, grafting, budding, etc.) In addition, you’ll learn valuable skills for careers in groundskeeping and landscaping, such as: how to identify plants, understand how environmental factors influence their growth, and how to help struggling plants.
These hands-on skills are useful in everyday life, with the training qualifying you for an amazing career within the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation’s Division of Urban Forestry (DUF)! Completing this course fulfills the training and experience requirements for DUF’s Nursery Worker I and II positions. These positions work outdoors with plants, earning upwards of $4,471 a month with amazing employment benefits.
