The City’s largest keiki program, Summer Fun is a seasonal day camp where children and teens are engaged in learning experiences that help build on soft skills, promoting leadership and success in education throughout their lives. It began on Oʻahu in 1944 with 26 sites in response to a community need for positive keiki engagement during World War II.
Today, Summer Fun is the largest program of its kind in the State; aiming to enrich approximately 10,000 keiki and teens at 60 locations around O‘ahu. Those sites include:

The cost of this amazingly affordable program remains the same as last year, with funding assistance available. This year’s Summer Fun registration fee is $25.00 per keiki, with an additional activity fee of no more than $100 for participating sites that offer extra-curricular activities such as an excursion to Kualoa Regional Park. All combined fees will not exceed $125 per keiki.
The City is continuing to offer registration and activity fee waivers for qualifying families and neighborhoods. Federal Fiscal Recovery Funds will help offset the cost of the activity fee for Title 1 neighborhoods, with the U.S. Department of Human Services (DHS) providing additional funds to offset registration fees for eligible families. Families who receive a DHS waiver must submit the document to their respective park at least two business days prior to the registration date. Photo identification must be provided when redeeming your waiver.
DPR is also privileged to participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The 2024 SFSP is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture and will be available to Summer Fun participants 18 years and younger in qualified areas.
Additionally, select Summer Fun locations will offer Summer Plus, which provides activities for enrolled keiki before and/or after the regular program hours. This extracurricular program is offered by Kama‘āina Kids or the YMCA for an additional cost. Before care is $7.00 a day and Aftercare is $9.00 a day. The exact sites offering Summer Plus are being determined, and will be posted on the Summer Fun website ( bit.ly/summerfunoahu ) when they are confirmed.
Staffing
Each year, the Summer Fun Program employs roughly 500 adults to help develop the program, supervise keiki, and put the “fun” into Summer Fun! These jobs are an excellent way to gain experience in the childcare field, while earning a minimum $16 / hour in a dynamic work environment with dozens of program sites around O‘ahu!
A variety of positions are available ranging from recreation aides to pool lifeguards and therapeutic assistants. For interested college students, an online application is available at bit.ly/applysummerfun
For adults not enrolled in college, a fillable PDF application is now available by following this link: bit.ly/summerfunapplication
Once you’ve completed the non-student application, email it to the park district where you’d like to work:
