Community meetings scheduled for skate park upgrades in Mililani, Wahiawā

City working with philanthropic groups to fund and facilitate these community-led efforts

The public is invited to take part discussions regarding community-led improvement projects for two skate parks in Central O‘ahu.

At George F. Wright Wahiawā District Park, the Hoʻoulu Wahiawā group is partnering with the City on the development and proposed expansion of the skate park at this historic public location. As part of this process, the City is organizing three community meetings regarding the effort, the first of which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27, 2024 beginning 5:30 p.m. in the park’s Ho‘okipa Building.

This first meeting is intended to bring the relevant stakeholders together to provide information on the proposed upgrades for the skate park, while discussing other potential improvements they envision throughout the park. The following two meetings are intended to further develop those potentiall improvements, and determine their feasibility.

At Mililani District Park, another community-led effort to provide lighting for the skate park is progressing. Thanks to a generous $20,000 gift from A-1 A-Lectrician, Inc. to supply the materials and labor for the installation of the lights, confirmed via City Council Resolution 24-200, the skate park is expected to have working lights by this September.

With assistance from the City’s Department of Facility Maintenance and Department of Environmental Services, eight 40-foot-tall lights are scheduled to be installed at the park. As a result of this effort, the Mililani Skate Park is scheduled to be closed from September 9 – 21, 2024.

Additional details and discussion of this project are scheduled for the next Neighborhood Board No. 25 meeting for Wednesday, August 28, 2024 beginning 7:30 p.m. at Mililani High School. You can also attend the meeting virtually. For more information, visit the board’s website at: www8.honolulu.gov/nco/nb25/

Both of these projects originated from concerns raised during Mayor Rick Blangiardi’s 2024 townhall meetings. We appreciate the collaboration and philanthropic support these businesses and communities have provided throughout these park improvement projects. Mahalo!
