Department of Facility Maintenance

DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

The Division of Road Maintenance (DRM) is primarily responsible for the maintenance of:

    • All streets and municipal parking lots under the jurisdiction of the City and County of Honolulu.  Street maintenance includes but is not limited to:
      • Maintenance of asphalt & concrete pavement
      • Re-striping of pavement markings
      • Replacement of raised pavement markers
      • Replacement of damaged or faded Street Signs & Sign Posts
      • Morning/afternoon contra-flow coning of Kalanianaole Highway, Ward Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard)  
      • Pavement maintenance to private roadways open to the public as authorized under ROH Article 14-32. Maintenance of Private Streets and Roads. 
      • The many city-owned streams, channels, ditches and other flood control and storm drainage systems located throughout the Island of Oahu, as well as enforcing the maintenance of privately owned streams.
      • Litter containers at City bus stops
      • All road sidewalks under the jurisdiction of the City and County of Honolulu.
      • Clearing City roadways and drainage ways of debris generated by heavy rains, wind, tsunamis, earthquakes and other natural disasters. 

Because of DRM’S resources and capability to perform varied types of work, it is often called upon to assist other city agencies and departments in special situations and emergencies.
