Mayor announces the appointment of Mark Yonamine as Deputy Director for the Department of Design and Construction
Mark Yonamine was sworn in on July 31, 2024
HONOLULU – Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced Wednesday the appointment of Mark Yonamine as the new Deputy Director of the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC).
Yonamine, an accomplished engineering professional, brings 32 years of experience in private consulting and public service roles. His comprehensive understanding of the unique engineering and construction challenges in Hawai‘i will be a valuable asset to the department.
“Mark Yonamine is a knowledgeable, well-seasoned engineer and an exceptional leader who understands the complex issues we face when it comes to effectively implementing our Capital Improvement Program,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “We are excited to welcome Mark back to the City and look forward to all the ways our DDC leadership team will build off of his experience and many talents.”
“Mark is undoubtedly the best choice for our current objectives at DDC,” said DDC Director Haku Milles. “He has 100% of my trust and we’re excited to have him come back to the department he served for 8 years. I know that his prior experience will allow us to hit the ground running.”
Yonamine most recently served as the Development Support Unit Manager for the State of Hawai‘i Hawai‘i Housing Finance and Development Corporation. He is no stranger to the Department of Design and Construction, having previously held the positions of Deputy Director from 2013 to 2019, and Director from 2019 to 2020.
Mark Yonamine holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Hawai‘i.
