The Kailua Beach Boat Ramp is the only boat ramp operated by the City and County of Honolulu and the only public ramp available between Maunalua Bay (Hawai‘i Kai) and He‘eia Kea (Kāne‘ohe).
Moffatt & Nichol (M&N), under the direction of the City and County of Honolulu (CCH) Department of Design and Construction (DDC) and Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), was tasked with evaluating the current conditions at and adjacent to the existing boat ramp and developing a feasibility study to determine a preferred alternative for improving the boat ramp and adjacent site.
The proposed improvements involve reconstructing the ramp with the same footprint and functionality as the existing one. The new design would enhance user safety and ramp durability while keeping the current 18-foot width. It would also include a more robust rock revetment to better protect the ramp’s foundation.
