Geotechnical work to begin for Kailua boat ramp improvement project

Kailua Beach Boat Ramp (May 2024), where geotechnical work will soon begin as part of the improvement project to enhance safety and accessibility
OʻAHU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC) announces that geotechnical work for the Kailua Boat Ramp Improvement Project will begin on March 17 and is expected to be completed by April 11, 2025. Work will take place on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays and weekends, weather and tide permitting.
During this period, access to the boat ramp and portions of adjacent parking will be restricted for safety reasons. The public is advised to avoid the area, and parking will be limited on the east side of the boat ramp.

The consultants, Pacific Geotechnical Engineers and Sea Engineering, will conduct soil boring test sampling at the Kailua Beach Boat Ramp. Five soil test borings will be drilled: two in-water borings at the toe of the existing boat ramp and three on the ramp above the water.
Soil boring is a critical step in assessing and confirming the site’s geotechnical characteristics, which are essential for designing the improved boat ramp. We appreciate the public’s patience, understanding, and cooperation as we complete this essential work to support the future Kailua Boat Ramp.
