HONOLULU—The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction and Department of Facility Maintenance will improve street lighting on the mauka/ewa corner of McCully Street and Kapi‘olani Boulevard, adjacent to the McCully Shopping Center.

The project involves the installation of a steel street light pole and lighting system near the intersection to illuminate the crosswalk area and enhance pedestrian safety. The construction project, with a cost of $37,700, will be conducted by Paul’s Electrical Contracting, LLC. Work crews plan to conduct all work within the sidewalk area; however, it may be necessary to temporarily block off one lane of McCully Street adjacent to the work site for equipment operation and worker safety.

The project is expected to begin on March 10 and be completed by April 3. Work will take place on weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (excluding holidays). During the construction period, pedestrian traffic may be redirected to alternate crosswalks or follow detours set by the contractor. Drivers are asked to exercise caution and expect minor delays near the intersection.

The new street light will enhance nighttime visibility and create a safer pedestrian environment in this high-traffic area. The City and County of Honolulu appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve community safety.
