KĀNE‘OHE – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction wishes to inform the public that work on a drainage improvement project will begin soon between Kokokahi Drive and Malulani Street in Kāne‘ohe.

The work will include the installation of a storm drainage system — including inlets, manholes, and a catch basin — as well as the construction of asphalt concrete berms and curbs. A number of other site upgrades are scheduled, including improvements to pavement, railings, curbs, and gutters, as well as sidewalk restoration work within the City right-of-way. The drainage improvements will enhance flood mitigation and ensure safer conditions for pedestrians and vehicles.

Construction work is expected to start on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 and will last approximately six months, weather permitting. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding holidays.

A single-lane closure may be implemented on Malulani Street between Kokokahi Place and Miha Street during construction. Sidewalk access may be intermittently restricted along Malulani Street. Access to Kokokahi Place may be restricted to local traffic only during construction. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through the area and asked to follow all posted warning signs, barriers, traffic control devices, and/or personnel. Honolulu police officers will be posted as required to assist during construction.

In preparation for the project’s start, the contractor distributed notices to residents in the affected area on Thursday, November 7.

Questions and comments may be directed to the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction at (808) 768-8400.
