Boat ramp work suspended due to weather; public reminded of ongoing closure

Kailua Beach Boat Ramp (May 2024), where geotechnical work will soon begin as part of the improvement project to enhance safety and accessibility.
OʻAHU —The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC) announces that geotechnical activities are suspended this week due to adverse weather and surf conditions. DDC anticipates that work will resume the week of March 31 and is expected to be completed by April 25, 2025, weather and ocean conditions permitting. Work will take place on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays and weekends, weather and tide permitting.

Pacific Geotechnical Engineers and Sea Engineering are conducting soil boring tests at the Kailua Beach Boat Ramp. Out of the five planned test borings, three land-side borings have been completed. The two remaining in-water borings are pending favorable tide and weather conditions.
Soil boring is a vital step in evaluating the site’s geotechnical characteristics, which is essential for designing the improved boat ramp. We appreciate the public’s patience, understanding, and cooperation as we carry out this critical work to support the future of the Kailua Boat Ramp.
