Legal Disclaimer<\/strong> Mayor Rick Blangiardi held a ceremony in his office on April 1, 2024 to sign a proclamation declaring April, 2024 to be \u201cFair Housing Month\u201d in the City and County of Honolulu. On April 11, 1968, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968. Title VIII of the Act, also known as the \u201cFair Housing Act,\u201d prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, sex, (and as amended) handicap and family status. The City\u2019s Department of Community Services hosts a series of conferences in April each year to educate both landlords and tenants alike about their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act.<\/p> The Fair Housing Office promotes fair housing awareness through information, workshops, and meetings to the general public and to organizations working in the housing field.
