Permit<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-2392\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-2392\"><p><strong>Motorcycle Instruction Permit Restrictions:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>You are not allowed to carry passengers.<\/li><li>You are not allowed to operate a motorcycle during the hours of darkness while learning to ride with a permit.<\/li><li>Your permit may be renewed <em>if<\/em> you have taken a skill test prior to the expiration of the motorcycle instruction permit.<\/li><li>If your permit expires before you take a skill test at least once, you must wait three months before applying for another motorcycle instruction permit.<\/li><li>If your instruction permit is lost, stolen, destroyed or mutilated\/illegible, you may order a<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www1.honolulu.gov\/duplicates\/\"> duplicate permit online<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Driver\u2019s Education Certificate Requirements:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Drivers under 18 are required to take driving lessons at a driver\u2019s education program certified by the Hawaii Department of Transportation.<\/li><li>If you are 16 to 18 years old, you must earn a Driver Education Student Completion Certificate and a Behind-the-Wheel Student Completion Certificate, and you are required to practice driving on your motorcycle instructional permit for at least <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">180*<\/span> days before you can take the skills test.<ul><li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Effective 3\/21\/2022, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hidot.hawaii.gov\/highways\/safe-communites\/motorcycles-motor-scooters-and-mopeds-general-information\/\">Hawaii Department of Transportation<\/a><\/strong> announced a correction <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">to the Hawaii Motorcycle Manual (scroll to \u201cMinors: Under 18 years old\u201d information section <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">under \u201cIn state\u201d and \u201cUnder the permit phase\u201d.)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">\u00a0As of 4\/17\/2023 an updated Hawaii Motorcycle Manual with the corrected 180-day permit <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">period requirement has not yet been published, but the requirement is 180 days.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">The City and County of Honolulu enforces the 180-day permit period requirement.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Driver Performance Test:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>You are required to successfully complete an off-street skill test to get a motorcycle or motor scooter license in Hawaii.<\/li><li>The skills test may be waived if you have a motorcycle skills test Certification for Waiver issued by the Hawaii Motorcycle Safety Education Program or a valid motorcycle license or endorsement from another state.<\/li><li>Off-street skills testing is conducted on a walk-in basis on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Commercial Driver Licensing Office, 897 Second St. in Pearl City; a limited number of skills tests are administered on those days, and sign up for same-day testing is from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.<\/li><li>For the off-street skills test, you must provide a motorcycle in safe operating condition with a current registration, current safety inspection certificate and liability insurance identification card.<\/li><li>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hidot.hawaii.gov\/highways\/files\/2017\/09\/Motorcycle-Manual-Version-5-2017.pdf\">Hawaii Motorcycle Manual<\/a><\/strong> lists motorcycle and safety equipment requirements.<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-toggle-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-2393\"
