Information for U.S. Military Service Members

Military members with a valid driver’s license from another U.S. state do not need to obtain a Hawaii driver’s license unless that license is expiring and they cannot renew it in that state.

An expired driver’s license is not a valid license to legally drive. Active duty military personnel and their dependents, whose driver’s license expired while they were deployed out of the country, have the benefit of having their driver’s license valid for 90 days after they return to the United States.
